This stunning plate is an antique Wood & Sons blue transferware plate in the highly collectible "Seaforth" pattern. The "Seaforth" is a classic British Chinoiserie pattern featuring a central landscape with a grand pagoda, figures walking along a path, water with boats, and distant rolling hills. The wide rim is bordered by thick, dense floral arrangements interspersed with geometric lattice designs, finished with a distinctive molded gadroon (rope-like) edge. The clear blue printed underglaze mark explicitly names the pattern "Seaforth," curved over the company info: "WOODS BURSLEM ENGLAND". It also features the commemorative names "ENOCH 1784" and "RALPH 1750", paying homage to the legendary founding fathers of the Wood pottery dynasty. It dates to the Late Victorian to Edwardian Era (circa 1891–1910). While the mark lists historic 18th-century dates for family lineage, the exact phrasing "Woods Burslem England" was introduced after 1891 to comply with export laws and was used heavily through the turn of the century.
