This is a darling Antique Victorian English ironstone copper luster pitcher or creamer. This elegant pitcher features a distinct molded scalloped or pedestal foot and a deeply curved, rococo-style scrolling handle. The middle body is decorated with an applied underglaze transfer pattern consisting of classic Victorian scrollwork, leaves, and small floral medallions, all accented with hand-painted gold and copper overglaze highlights. The prominent horizontal ribs, the base scallops, and the upper rim/spout are hand-lined with a heavy copper luster glaze—a classic 19th-century English method that uses metallic oxides to catch the light. The handwritten gold numbers 783 on the unglazed, crazed base are a painter's mark or pattern identification number used within the pottery house to track the design and compensate the individual decorator. The pitcher dates to the mid-to-late Victorian Era (circa 1860–1890). While it lacks a printed factory maker's mark (which is incredibly common for English lustreware of this timeframe), the specific paste type, deep clear glaze crazing, and shape are quintessential Staffordshire ironstone characteristics from the mid-to-late 19th century.

  • 6" x 4.5"
  • Excellent antique condition. Slight crazing and wear to some of the copper luster on the rim.
